Your Travel Dollars Wisely
With the airlines…
Buy airline tickets by roundtrip fare. It is often less than a one–way.
Purchase tickets early. Most fares are less 21, 14, 7 and 3 days in
advance and then they increase in price the closer you get to your
departure. Some have no advance purchase.
Many also give you a better price if you stay a Saturday night.
Alternate airport that may require a little driving that could save
you dollars especially when sales are involved.
Do not discard any unused tickets. You may be allowed to us that fare
towards the purchase of a new ticket. Rules vary according to each
airline but it may be worth it.
Have your frequent flyer numbers handy when you book or at check-in
if they haven’t been entered earlier.
When it comes to lodging…
If you are traveling on the weekend a business hotel may offer a lower
rate.
Listen to lodging descriptions carefully since the price may be the
same but the amenities could vary greatly. Check to see if a continental
breakfast is offered for the same rate.
Consider the season you are traveling. Rates will be lower when it
is an off-peak period.
And if you need to rent a car….
Rental cars often have weekend specials or ask you agent whether it
is cheaper to rent the car for a few more days. Sometimes a 5-day
rental is not much more than a 7-day rental.
Remember discount coupons or to mention companies that offer discounts
like AAA and/or Costco. |
